With reference to your assignment to me for preparing a feasibility study to establish a Medical Laboratory Sciences program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, based on the letter from the President of the University addressed to Your Excellency, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Luay Abuqatouseh, with the membership of Mrs. Hanan Namoura (Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor and a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Sciences program from University of Petra) and Miss Suzanne Al-Wawi (Laboratory Technician with a professional license from the Ministry of Health). The committee conducted a survey study that included a mapping study of the Medical Laboratory Sciences specialty in higher education institutions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and all its academic programs, as well as a comparative study of the program with local, regional, and international universities.
A directed questionnaire was also conducted in cooperation with the Jordanian Association for Medical Laboratory Sciences to facilitate obtaining a SWOT analysis of the strengths and weaknesses and the feasibility of establishing the Medical Laboratory Sciences specialty within the Faculty of Pharmacy. Additionally, communication was established with stakeholders associated with the specialty, including Jordanian universities, medical laboratory owners, and employers responsible for identifying labor market needs. The committee concluded with a recommendation to proceed with the necessary steps to establish a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences program in the Faculty of Pharmacy, following proper procedures.
